Michael Graham’s Calendar of Events 2019

From country fairs and village fetes to Royal Ascot and Wimbledon, there’s nothing quite like England in the summertime. The month of May seems to have taken a lot of us by surprise (where has the year gone?) so before we find ourselves in the middle of summer, here’s a round-up of some of the best family days out and social and sporting events in and around the Michael Graham region:

Chelsea Flower Show

May

Bedford Regatta 11th May - One of the social highlights of the year in Bedford, this single day river regatta is one of the largest in the country. For the 155th consecutive year rowers will race through the heart of the town on the picturesque River Great Ouse.

Grafton Horse Races and Family Country Day 19th May - Pack a picnic and enjoy pony and horse racing at Edgcote Race Course near Banbury with stalls and attractions for all ages.

Glyndebourne Festival 18th May to 25th August - Classic opera in the most glorious of country house settings in Lewes, East Sussex.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 21st to 25th May - Catch the top gardening trends for 2019 at this year’s RHS show.

June

Buckingham Literary Festival 13th to 16th June - A must for lovers of the written word, this three day celebration of books, poetry and drama welcomes a host of acclaimed authors and speakers.

Royal Ascot 18th to 22nd June - A highlight of both the racing and the social calendars and attended by the Queen, Ascot promises five days of horse racing, star spotting and elegant style.

Woburn Abbey Garden Show 22nd to 23rd June - Set within 42 acres of the Woburn Abbey Estate in Bedfordshire, “The Gardeners Garden Show” offers talks, tips and tours of the famous landscaped gardens. Keep an eye on the Michael Graham website for the opportunity to win a VIP package to the show.

Princes Risborough Town Festival 29th June to 6th July - A fun-filled family day with plenty of stalls, great music and delicious food.

July

Wimbledon 1st to 14th July - The oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. The hopes of the nation are pinned on Andy Murray recovering from surgery and making it to SW19 for one last time.

Henley Royal Regatta 3rd to 7th July - It doesn’t get more British than Henley. Best enjoyed with a glass of Pimms from the banks of the river Thames.

Formula 1 British Grand Prix 12th to 14th July - For Formula One fans, one of the best weekends of the F1 year, period.

The Game Fair at Hatfield House 26th to 28th July - Celebrating British field sports and country life, the Fair has activities for all the family, including archery, fishing, falconry and clay shooting.

August 

Blakesley Show 3rd August - An array of equestrian, livestock and trade exhibitors plus a gymkhana make this 135th annual show a must for lovers of the country life, and a firm favourite of us here at Michael Graham.

BBC Countryfile Live 1st to  4th August - Set in the spectacular grounds of Oxfordshire’s Blenheim Palace, kayaking, off-roading, tree-climbing and fishing all included in the ticket price make this a great-value country day out.

Kempston Fun Day 24th August - Enjoy a fabulous day out with all the family and support local charities at the same time – all profits are donated to local causes.

Bucks County Show 29th August - Possibly the best one-day agricultural show in the country with 60 cattle classes, 30 sheep classes and some of the most talented show jumpers in the county. The sun always shines at the Bucks County Show so please do join us on the Michael Graham stand for a glass of something refreshing!

Evenley Fete and Dog Show 31st August - A quintessential English fete and much-loved dog show on the largest village green in Northamptonshire.
